FAR FROM THE MADDENING CROWDS

VISION - The vision is to create a 360 space where people from all walks of life visiting the expo can rest, far from the maddening crowds. A place where they can meet, sit, and talk together. A place where ideas and thoughts on the future are exchanged that will help to shape us, define the future. Nucleus is a space to breathe, where visitors can rest, revive and relax. At the heart of nucleus is the idea move away from the trend to create ever more complex digital pavilions that bombard visitors with a deluge of bland messages that are forgotten as quickly as they are seen and to create a sense of wonder.

APPROACH - The approach is to move away from the trend to create ever more complex digital pavilions with a myriad of screens all competing for attention and to focus on creating the ultimate analogue pavilion. In a chaotic world where we are continually bombarded with messages, notifications, adverts, tracking, voice. We miss the simple things and the space to mentally rest. Nucleus is a pavilion that is entirely analogue in a digital world. The approach is to create a 360 degree form that encourages and allows people to enter in their own way and to find the centre where they can take a moment from the expo.

IDEA - Nucleus is a space for people to absorb what they have seen. The giant cones help channel people to the centre where people can sit and take a mental rest from the overload that occurs at expos. Visitors enter the structure through a number of the cones, doing away with a forced journey. The bright copper finish ensures that the pavilion is unable to be confused with any other structures and does away with the need for branding else. The inside of the cones are lined with cork helping to dampen the sound from the outside creating a quiet chamber in the centre. Digital signals are blocked.
